Crys Matthews

2025 International Folk Music Awards Artist of the Year

A troubadour of truth, Nashville resident Crys Matthews is among the brightest stars of the new generation of social justice music-makers. An award-winning, prolific lyricist and composer, Matthews blends country, Americana, folk, blues, and bluegrass into a bold, complex performance steeped in traditional melodies punctuated by honest, original lyrics. She is made for these times.

The Gais Do Do Band

Dance with pride to the Cajun music of the Gais Do Do Band. Their tight rhythms and French lyrics will get you up and moving. The star-studded band features Gina Forsyth on fiddle and vocals, Rosemary Benoit on accordion and fiddle and Maegen Benoit on drums and vocals. Jan Boney brings rhythm guitar and Sam Wróbel adds bass to that rhythm that keeps you on your feet. Dance like you wanna! (Photo by Robin May.)

Kalivyn Marquix

Kalivyn Marquix is a delta griot using poem, song, and performance to discover and preserve the histories, mythologies, and futures of queer black people. Kalivyn sees poetry not only as an art form but the schematics for how we live in and alter the world. Kalivyn is the current Baton Rouge Poet Laureate, where their work focuses on enfranchising the imaginations of young adults by giving them the space to discover and resources to fashion their narratives and the narratives of their community. In 2022 and 2018, Kalivyn was a finalist for the Adroit Prize in poetry. Kalivyn is also the 2017 Brave New Voice International Slam Champion as part of the Forward Arts All Star team. Kalivyn’s work can be found in ASAP/journal, the Adroit Journal, The Delta Journal, and South: A Scholarly Journal.
